Baby Projects

I've made a couple more things for babies lately that I wanted to share.

1. Rag Quilt for Timothy James Hunter--my sister's boy due beginning of June:

2. Tux Onesie for my little guy. I've been wanting to make this for over a year, but didn't have a reason to. Now that I'm having a boy, I do! I just need some black pants now, and we'll be all set.

I don't have a baby to model it on yet, so here's the alternative... :)

24 Weeks and Counting

Well, I'm 24 weeks and counting. Finally starting to get a belly...even though some people still can't tell. I think it's pretty obvious though. What do you think? I guess it depends on what I wear too because some things really show off the bump and others hide it more.

The funny thing is that I still sometimes forget that I'm pregnant because I feel so good, and haven't been too uncomfortable yet. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to say that, but I feel fortunate for now. It's fun to feel him kick and move around a lot more now. I wasn't really able to until a couple of weeks ago, but now I can sometimes feel it on the outside, which is neat. Shaun hasn't been able to yet because everytime I grab his hand to feel the baby stops kicking... figures.

Shaun's been really cute lately. He's getting more used to the fact that we're going to have a baby in a few short months, and has been great in helping me find stuff. In fact, he voluntarily went to a bunch of garage sales with me a couple of weekends ago to look for baby stuff! He even picked out a couple of things he thought would be good to have!

He tried feeling my belly for the first time the other night too, but baby wasn't moving. He did say goodnight to him though, then started telling me that he really is excited to be a dad and to have a son, and told me a bunch of things they're going to do together. It was so sweet! Made me love him so much more, and I wanted to cry because I know he's stressed with school and the job hunt, but he's starting to think about the baby more now. What a great daddy Shaun will be!

Homemade Hot Pockets...YUM!

My MIL made some wheat rolls and added a little spaghetti sauce and olives in the middle. They were pretty good, but didn't have near enough in the middle. Her rolls reminded me of hot pockets, and I wanted to make some. I thought ham, cheese, asparagras and mushrooms would be good to try. They're AMAZING! Perfect to grab and go! Shaun and I have been eating them for breakfast all week. I'm definitely going to have to make them more often!

Here's how:

Make rolls and let them rise. (I use a super easy one-hour bread recipe)

While they are rising, chop up the ham, asparagras, and mushrooms, and mix together in a bowl.(It's important to cook the asparagras beforehand and cook any meat going in as well. I used the already smoked ham from the grocery store.)

Once the dough has risen, flatten a roll and spread it out as much as you can so there is room for plenty of stuffing. Start with the cheese.

Add your mix.

Add more cheese (this will act as a glue when cooked), and Fold and pinch closed.

Place on greased pan, and repeat for all rolls.

I also wiped a little butter on top to give the rolls a nice golden brown color.

Bake as you would normally bake the rolls (according to the recipe you use)--maybe a few minutes longer. You have to check to make sure the dough is completely cooked on the bottom where you folded it under because it's thicker in that area.

Enjoy!

These are perfect to stick in little baggies to grab and go in the mornings. We just pop them in the microwave for about a minute to warm them up, and breakfast is served!

I put a few in the fridge at work too, and they're perfect for a light afternoon snack or warm two up for lunch!

I LOVE SPRING!!!

Not only is it FINALLY warming up outside, but the trees and plants are all in full bloom, baby animals are being born, AND... iT's garage sale season! YAY! One of my favorite times of the year! You can get so many great things for so cheap! Usually I look for projects--like furniture with lots of potential that I can redo, and I still am, but this spring is mostly all about the BABY STUFF! Shaun and I went to a few sales yesterday and we found quite a bit--all for about $20! It's so nice knowing we're having a boy so I can get stuff for him! We found a bunch of baby boy clothes $.25-$1.00 each taht will be great this winter for our little guy. We also bought this little Moses-type carrier, a bouncer that plays music and vibrates, a bath seat, and a few other items. Check them out below! All I have to do is was everything, and I've already taken them apart to do so. =)

Dr. Seuss and Friends Book Club

I joined the Dr Seuss and Friends Book Club onlineat the end of February, and fianlly got the welcome package a week ago. It included 8 books and a free tote all for just under $11.00 + free shipping! Then from now on we'll get 3 books every 5 weeks for $4.99/each--which is the same price if not less than what they cost in stores. They have more variety, and won't send me the same books multiple times, so I think it's worth it. Plus it's just fun to get packages in the mail every once in a while--like Christmas! =)

The first shipment (above) we got the following books: "Ten Apples Up On Top!," "Dr. Seuss's ABC," "Are You My Mother?," "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham," "Go, Dog. Go!", "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," and "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish."

Coming soon will be "There's a Wocket in My Pocket," "Great Day for Up," and "Please Try to Remember the First of Octember."

Apple Tree blanket COMPLETE!!!

I finally put the backing on this blanket last weekend. Here's the finished product. It's not perfect, but it's a tree. This will hang on the wall in the nursery.

A few friends have told me I should think about patening the design and make more to put in a book. I'm thinking about it. How fun would it be to come up with designs and sell them?! It didn't take long to make collectively--it was just making myself sit down and actually do it. I have a long way to go before mastering quilting--I'm not sure I'll ever be as good as my mom, but a pattern book is fun to think about!

Oh, I added a border to my rag blanket too, so it's a bit bigger. It still needs to be washed so it will fray, but here it is for now.

AND, we got the first baby gift. A beautiful blanket from my boss and his wife that she personally knitted. Check it out!
